The Lone Spacer
Game developed as part of assignment requirement.
Significant changes to the course example:
Re branded the whole game to be more aligned with the 'puzzle' theme than a 'shooter' theme including: Changes to menu screen graphics, changes to all fonts, changes to all music on all levels. This changes the feel of the game (enemies are removed for example) to generate a different and consistent feel of a 'puzzle solving game'.
Redesigned and added two new levels - built along the 'puzzle' theme, These levels represent a continuity of increasing difficulty, with earlier levels introducing the hazards that are more dangerous in later levels.
Build, coded and implemented two new hazard types - a rotating fan which deals damage to the player, and a further fan which as well as dealing damage kicks the player off track. These are coded with the ability for the designer to specify damage level.
The second new hazard is a disappearing walkway. - There are two separate variants - one disappears a set time after the player steps on it, the other disappears when the player leaves it. The first has a variable for the designer to specify the time until it disappears. The first is also coded to begin to fade while that player stands on it is a visual clue to the disappearing walkway. The player falls if still on it when the walkway disappears. The respawn logic has also been recoded to re-instantiate these walkways if the player respawns after death - play testing made it obvious that some levels might be unsolvable unless they were put back on each try.
